The rescue plan was rejected

without comments

The plan was not passed

The great rescue plan that was to safe American economy from crashing was yesterday rejected by the republicans themselves! Bush finally managed to get the democrats along, but now it seems that this was not enough.

The powers of the market

The problem is that some politicians believe that the market should be allowed to stabelize without any interference from the government. One could think that this it is a sympathical thought, as the Wall Street should be able to rescue themselves. read more about the rejected rescue plan i the US

From cradle to cradle

without comments

What is up with this concept?

I just heard about a new concept that relates to producing new producte. It is called from cradle til cradle -symbolizing that when an object has served its purpose it should be designed i a way, that its parts should be useable for creating new projects.

Is this just another ambitious idea?

My first thought was that “great here we are – another ambitious environmental idea”. But I have to my suprise learned that this is not the case. The people working from this concept have invented icecreame wrapping that melts when it is exposed to higher temperature than 10 degrees celcius. This is a genious idea. Think about how great our verges would look if wrappings in general just melted! read more about the cradle to cradle idea here

Bush’s plan for rescue

without comments

The master plan

The american President has come up with a 700 billion dollar savings plan that should be able to put the american economy back on track. This plan must however get the support from the democrats to be passed. The other day the political parties met to agree on the plan, but the meeting was no success.

Democrates are against

The conflict in relations to the plan is said to be that the democrates do not want to pay the people in charge the money they demand to let the state in on controling their companies. The democrates do not want to put their name to a bill that will make some company executives rich, if they make it through the cricis – understandbly! read more about the the rescue plan for american economy here

The power of suppliers

without comments

Suppliers

Suppliers are those who supply the organisation with what it needs to produce the product or service. As well as fuel, raw materials and equipment, this can include labour and sources of finance. The factors increasing suppliers power are the converse to those for buyer power. Thus, supplier power can be high in certain areas.

Concentrated suppliers

Where just a few pruducers dominate supply, suppliers have more power over buyers. The iron ore industry is now concedtrated in the hands of three main producers, leaving the steal companies, relatively fragmented, in a very weak negotiation position for this essential raw material. read more about the power of suppliers here

EU influence on cellphone prices

without comments

EU influence

For as long as I can remember cellphone prices, when the phones are used outside the national boarders, have been out of proportions. Prices like 50 US cents per textmessage is not unusual, and doing a little bit of math, everyone can se that texting quickly run up.

The influence

The problem of these high prices has come to the attention of the European Commission, which have now published at law which will force the companies to compete in this market. Until now the great phone companies have avoided competition in this market, but fra january 2009 this is no longer the case. The European Commission will force the max price of text messages down to 15 US cents. read more about the EU influence on cellphone prices here

They have lost all

This evening on the news I saw the pictures of the traces of destruction that Ike the hurricane has left. Houses in total destruction, car totally smashed. It seems that theese people have lost everything that they own.

Insurence?

I wonder what the consequences of this disaster will be. Are they at all insured against this kind pf dammage? And if they are will they be able to pay their insurance next time. I imagine that the insurence companies will be rasing the insurance premium in all areas that are usually hit by there tropic storms. read more about the disastor Ike left in Texas here

How governing bodies influence strategy

without comments

Boards of directors

A common issue increasingly debated is the role of boards of directors and of direktors themselves. Since boards have the ultimate responsibility for the succes or failure of an organisation as well as the benefits received by shareholders or wider stakeholders, they must be conserned with strategy. However, there are two broad choises on how they do this.

Delegate to management

Strategic management can be enturely delegated to management – with the board receiving and approving plans and decisions. Here the stewardship role of the board requires processes that ensure that the purpose of the organisation and its strategies are not captures by management at the expence of other stakeholders. read more about how governing bodies influence strategy here

Also many women like the notion of being spoiled by their man, getting gifts for them, arranging surprises, paying the bill when going out to eat. The qeustion is wether it is fair to keep up this double standart? About wether women ever will be financially equal with men here
